Don Cornell, was one of the popular recording artists in the world of entertainment.  Born Luigi Francisco Varlaro, Cornell grew-up in New York City. Although he was a successful boxer, until the musical bug bit him.  He exchanged his boxing gloves for a guitar and joined the Red Nichols Band.

His singing career started with popular orchestra leader, .Sammy Kay・. It was then that he changed his name to Don Cornell.

 His first hit recording with the Sammy Kay orchestra was, "It Isn・t Fair" which earned him his first gold record. Other hit recordings followed. "I・m Yours", "I・ll Walk Alone", and "Hold My Hand." From 1950-to-1962, he earned 12 conservative gold records at a pace of one per year. Through the years Mr. Cornell sold over 50 million recordings.

In February of 1993 he was inducted into the Big Band Hall of Fame.
